Founding Story

How did Optiml come to life?

Optiml’s story begins in the halls of Stanford and ETH Zurich, where Co-Founder & CEO Dr. Evan Petkov conducted groundbreaking research on optimal decarbonization strategies for buildings. During his PhD, Evan identified a critical gap: the lack of digital solutions to help asset managers, investors and consultancies plan cost-effective, Net Zero-aligned renovations with the necessary connection between engineering, finance, and sustainability. Research and close partnerships with leading firms laid the foundation for Optiml, transforming academic innovation into a solution we call today Optiml’s Real Estate Decision Intelligence.

It was during a cycling holiday that Jordi (Co-Founder & CTO) decided to come on board, and Optiml spun off from ETH in November 2022. Their early collaborations resulted in successful pilots with leading real estate stakeholders, validating the solution’s potential. In 2023, Nico Dehnert, now Co-Founder & CCO, brought his extensive experience in ClimateTech and B2B SaaS bringing 11+ years of experience in The Boston Consulting Group as a Partner where he supported large corporates, Private Equity and VC investors.

The co-founders complementary expertise spans a deep understanding of buildings – spanning energy, architecture, and construction – as well as real estate and technical dimensions. With global experience across all company sizes, we understand industry needs and what is at stake for real estate companies, which makes us a trusted partner for the sector.

Today, Optiml is the leading software for Real Estate Decision Intelligence, empowering asset managers, investors, and consultancies to achieve sustainability goals without compromising financial returns.
